"Think Well" brings more stories through sound from Central New York's adventure rock duo Heretofore. Recorded at SubCat studios in Syracuse, New York. Layered guitar melodies change and evolve at a brisk pace, and the pulse and heart of each song tells a story, has a conversation or makes a declaration of inherent feelings and atmospheres that are suggested by tones and rhythm, at times lilting and subdued, at others aggressive and forthright. Usually the songwriting process takes place with a story or theme, whether discussed or coaxed out with instrumentation which brings its own direction to each piece. Lyrics on this record are intentionally sparse, and are placed to serve the story of the song or to deliver a clarity to the theme that couldn't be told with drums and guitar. Galen McCown's guitar lines reveal his influences like Warren Haynes and players who speak through their guitar, while Mark Lavonier's drumming articulates a different and robust perspective on what a rock drummer can accomplish with a unique approach.
The record as a whole is a journey through many places and themes, from human flourishing to desperate wandering, surreal musing to reflective guardianship.
